21st April. Sun Sports 0 AFC Dunstable 3

With 3rd place at stake for both clubs, Sun Sports had to register a win but a draw for AFC would be enough. Apart from a 10 minute spell in the 2nd half, the visitors pulled the strings for the other 80 minutes.

AFC made one change from Saturday, with Jamie Warne coming in for Brandon Carney. AFC were on the front foot straight from kick off, as they played some very attractive football. Keeping the ball for long periods, they created numerous chances as the cross bar was struck twice. AFC took a deserved lead, when Wayne Mills played in Jermaine Hall, he finished with a low shot on 22 minutes.

AFC continued to press and Sun's keeper had to be on guard as he made some decent saves. There was still time for Grant Fryer to strike their bar again and when Leon Cashman went just wide with a shot, AFC had to be happy with a single goal lead at the break.

Half time: Sun Sports 0 AFC Dunstable 1

Knowing Sun had to get better in the 2nd half, they did have a spell when Ricky Perks had to make 2 smart saves to keep them out. Usual business was soon resumed, as AFC started to move the ball quickly and when in one move Hall struck the bar, the follow ups were cleared off the line twice. Would AFC regret not taking these chances ?

With 15 minutes left on the clock, Cashman finally eased any nerves when he blasted home to make it 2-0. Not happy with 2, AFC went all out for the 3rd and with a great right wing run from Mills, he put his cross on Hall's head for him to make it 3-0. That was Hall's 26th goal of the season in all competitions, 22nd in the league.

So at the final whistle, 3rd place was cemented and AFC boss Steve Heath was very happy with the performance saying " apart from that period in the 2nd half when Perksy had to make those 2 saves, I thought we put in a perfect display. I would say that was our best performance for a little while and especially against a top 6 side. We moved the ball well and all the lads seemed to be up for it tonight.

He continued " with our last game coming up on Saturday, I would like to put on record to say, it has been a complete joy working with this set of players. The team has changed quite alot since the beginning of the season and the players who have come in have been a treat. I would like to thank them all for their commitment they have showed right until the end of the season. You think, some might have cried off from games and training once the title had gone, but not these players"
