13th October - AFC Dunstable 1 Luton Town 0 (Beds Senior Cup 1st Round)

A 56th minute goal by Terry Griffiths, saw AFC progress to the 2nd Round of The Bedfordshire Senior Cup and set up a tie with fellow Creasey Park tenants Dunstable Town. With Terry's brother, Hatter Scott Griffiths in the stands, it was a nice moment for the younger Griffiths to score at Kenilworth Road.

With the game being switched to Kenilworth Road due to a fixture clash, it was AFC who came out on top in this derby. The OD's went into the game with the same starting line up as Saturday. Luton's team was mainly made up of their Development Squad, but had a sprinkling of 1st team squad players in Magnus Okuonghae, Mark O'Brien, Mark Onyemah and Matt Robinson. Francois Zoko was also included in the starting line up for the Hatters, who is at Kenilworth Road at present on trial. His recent teams in the last 12 months include Blackpool and Bradford City.

As to be expected, the "away side" started the game very brightly, as their players showed off all their technical ability. Saying that though, with all the ball possession they had, never really tested Ricky Perks in the AFC goal, as low key 1st half came to a close.

Half time: AFC Dunstable 0 Luton Town 0

If the opening period was pretty much a non event, the 2nd was much more exciting. Four minutes into the half, Hatters keeper Liam Gooch turned away a rasping strike from BJ Christie onto the crossbar. This seemed to give AFC some confidence and nearing the hour they took the lead. A low strike from Jason Beck was tipped onto the post by Gooch and Griffiths was the first to react and fired home.

AFC continued to look more settled and had a decent spell of play. It was to be expected that Luton would start to apply pressure. Perks was called upon to claw away a Robinson effort on 70 minutes and 4 minutes later substitute Freddie Hinds had a shot that went just wide.

The Hatters best effort of the game came on 79 minutes, when Zoko had a low shot which struck the AFC upright. Luton forced a few corners late on, but the AFC defence held firm to set up another El Creaseyco.

AFC boss Steve Heath was full of praise for his team " I thought the whole team worked so hard all over the pitch for the full 90 minutes. You have to understand, the Luton players tonight are all pro's and my players have all been at their day jobs today, so to put in so much effort is credit to them all"
