18th October - Chalfont St Peter 1 AFC Dunstable 1

With this being AFC's 2nd game in 3 days, they had to call on all their resources to gain a hard earned point. After the fine win on Sunday, more injuries woes greeted Steve Heath as Josh Humbert had picked up a dose of the flu and James Bishop an ankle injury.

The good news was the return of Bill Morgan in defence. Since picking up his championship medal last season, work commitments has seen him miss all of AFC's games this season.

On a chilly night in Buckinghamshire, the visitors started the brighter and created 2 very good chances through Brandon Carney and Jermaine Hall. While Chalfont eased themselves into the game, they started to run the half, as AFC's exertions 2 days earlier were taking their toll.

It was a case of AFC trying to compete with the hosts up tempo performance. While they attacked the OD's goal, most of their efforts were wide of the mark.

Half time: Chalfont St Peter 0 AFC Dunstable 0

Hoping to re-group his troops, Heath would soon look to his bench to freshen up his team. Before that though, the home side took the lead. From a break they attacked in numbers and when a Charlie Strutton was found unmarked 5 yards from goal, he easily found the back of the net on 58 minutes.

AFC were now up against it, as they looked out on their feet. To their credit, from somewhere they drew on their reserves and started to carve out some chances. Pressure was now being built as they got the ball wide and caused the hosts defence plenty of problems.

Firstly on 72 minutes, a great cross from sub Adiel Mannion found Brandon Carney at the far post. As he lined up his strike, he flashed his shot across goal as it hit the upright. Chalfont were now giving away silly free kicks and with Newman Carney putting in plenty of dangerous balls, it took a fine save from ex AFC Garry Malone to protect their lead.

With AFC pushing for the equaliser, they were open to the counter attack. With 6 minutes left on the clock, Tyrone Pink broke clear and drew a great save from Ricky Perks to keep AFC in the game.

Back up the other end, a couple of goal mouth scrambles just did not go AFC's way and it looked like it was not going to be their night. Then with 90 minutes on the clock, Chalfont conceded another free kick and this time they would pay for it. Newman Carney floated in the ball and as it fell to Mannion, he turned smartly to strike into the bottom corner.

So honours even and in the end the correct result, which pushed AFC four places up to 6th in the table and 2 points off the play offs.
