17th September. AFC Dunstable 0 Harefield United 4
AFC were taught a stark lesson in defending, as their home record suffered another defeat at the hands of an impressive Harefield United team. Out of the 3 goals scored by The Hares, AFC contributed to 3 of them.
All looked rosy as AFC started the brighter as a flowing move saw a Enzo Silvestri strike well saved by Matthew Elston Bull. That move was to be AFC last real challenge to Harefield's high energy, as they started to get a lot more positive as they won nearly ever personal battle on the pitch.
The Hares opened the scoring on 8 minutes, when the AFC midfield gave away the ball in a dangerous position and Harry Newman was on hand to put the ball into a empty net. It was going to be a fruitful night for Newman, as AFC gifted him a hat trick. The 2nd was a comedy of errors as Damien Pickering and Fabio Bufano got in a pickle and once again Newman was the beneficiary. He must have thought Christmas had come early.
Next error was a needless foul 20 yards out and Michael Chennells rifled in the free kick to give Louis Porcelli no chance with 28 minutes on the clock.
Half Time: AFC Dunstable 0 Harefield United 3
The 2nd half was no better, as the visitors continued to press all round the pitch and this resulted in George Biggadike being caught in possession by Mark Smith, who squared the ball to a totally unmarked Newman to make it 4-0 with 20 minutes remaining. It was now looking like AFC could be on the end of a real battering but to their credit finished the game quite strongly but all the damage had been done.
A shocked Steve Heath said " all the preparation my coaching team and myself put in, you cannot legislate for elementary mistakes. This is a very tough league and I expect my players to be playing at a high standard, because if you don't we will be punished and it proved that today"
