AFC's pathway.
While the club are rightly proud of our pathway for all players, as the club gear up for a new season, we can look back on 3 players from our youth teams that signed academy contracts for professional clubs last season.
As our 16-21 section of the club is looking very strong, it is hoped many of these players will break into our 1st team, who compete in the Evo-Stik Southern League at step 4 level of the NLS in the not to distant future.
Three players however have made the jump to pro clubs and it goes to show what a great job the club is doing.
Starting with our Under 14's, Tom Rowley signed for Sky Bet League One club MK Dons. Playing in either a wide right midfield position or as a striker, Tom's hard work paid off. His manager Dave Collins said of Tom " he was so determined he was going to make it, he worked on all aspects of his game and improved immensely. It was so deserving that he signed for the Dons Academy and he recently played against Manchester United at Stadium MK"
Now up to our Under 15's and two players were snapped up by Northampton Town and Luton Town. Again another Sky Bet League One side in the shape of Northampton Town came in for Jamie Capone. Utility player Jamie impressed his manager Simon Davey so much he said" Jamie could play at either centre back or in midfield and his reactive time to danger was exceptional. He is a great athlete with a great engine"
The 3rd player is Sam Mould. Local club Luton Town, who compete in Sky Bet League Two, saw the potential in Sam and signed him up. Defender Sam impressed so much at AFC, he even played a year up for our Under 16's on occasions. Once again his manager Simon Davey only had praise for Sam saying " he has a great attitude and scored some important goals. He was very professional in his approach and it is no surprise to me he made it into a professional clubs academy"
As the club move forward with giving youth a chance, it goes to show, a breeding ground of great talent is amongst us and any player who has the talent and attitude to progress higher up the football ladder, AFC Dunstable can see the potential of these boys. So any players who have trialed for our Floodlit or Development teams recently, who knows what is out there and it gives the club great pride to produce this exciting talent.
