AFC Dunstable 0 Luton Town X1 0 (Pre season friendly)
With their 6th and final pre season friendly complete, AFC had to be content with a goalless draw against Luton Town's Development Squad.
It was another chance for the OD's boss Steve Heath to field another large squad as 18 players were available to him. He gave a start to 17 year old Jake Kissiedu with his Under 18 team mate Joe Hankins on the bench, who would get a full 45 minutes after the break.
The 1st half was a tight affair as neither team really threatened. A Josh Humbert header came back off the Luton bar and that was really the only meaningful attempt of the opening half.
With AFC boss Steve Heath making 6 changes by the hour mark, it gave him a chance to have a good look at their replacements. This is when though the visitors started to get on top. For the next 20 minutes they had the better of the play and a couple of last ditch tackles and a good save from Ricky Perks kept them at bay. If the majority of the 90 minutes were pretty uneventful, when the game entered added on time, 3 gilt edge chances were squandered. Firstly good work from BJ Christie set up Terry Griffiths at the far post but Hatters keeper kept out his shot. Then it was the turn of the visitors to miss a glorious chance. Their striker rounded Perks and had an open goal gaping but somehow screwed his shot wide of the target. Then with the last action of the game, an AFC trialist header over from a yard out.
So in the end the teams could not be separated and the David Preece Memorial Trophy was shared.
Heath was again pleased with the quality of the opposition saying "that is 3 top teams we have played in 6 days. I have learnt alot about the players and now the hard work starts this week at training before we start our league campaign away to Uxbridge on Saturday"
