8th October - Uxbridge 4 AFC Dunstable 0 (FA Trophy)
Making their first foray into the FA Trophy, AFC crashed out at the Preliminary Round. Steve Heath yet again found his squad stretched to the limit with suspensions, injuries and departures, to the extent he did not have any fit players to call upon from the bench.
Having won at Uxbridge on the opening day of the season, today's scoreline did flatter the hosts though, as AFC went in search to rescue the tie in the 2nd half and left themselves wide open at the back.
There was nothing to chose between the two sides in the 1st half as only a single goal separated them. A fine run down the right on 18 minutes saw the cross converted to give the hosts the lead.
It should have been all square on the half hour, when a fine AFC move down the left set up Roy Byron who had his close range shot saved.
The visitors continued to probe for most of the half but could not find the breakthrough.
Half time: Uxbridge 1 AFC Dunstable 0
Looking to carry on were they left off in the 1st half, AFC conceded too early in the half from a corner. Now they had a mountain to climb, but like the previous Saturday turned in an excellent 2nd half performance. They would though not be rewarded for their efforts.
On 64 minutes a Jermaine Hall header struck the upright and then 4 minutes later, the home keeper made a good save from the same player. Pressure was now being exerted and when Brandon Carney also found the woodwork on 68 minutes, it was looking like it was going to be one of those days. This was confirmed when Uxbridge broke away to make it 3.
Again, AFC kept up the tempo and the hosts keeper was called into action again. With AFC pushing forward and playing only 2 at the back, yet again they were hit on the counter attack on 82 minutes and it was 4-0.
At least AFC did not give up the ghost, as the game entered injury time. The Uxbridge custodian again denied Hall on two more occasions.
